A cash penalty has been imposed when an IPS cadre not provided information sought under (RTI)Act

A cash penalty has been imposed a senior officer of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre for not providing information sought under Right to Information (RTI)Act by one of her own junior colleague.

Social and RTI activist, Nutan Thakur who confirmed the above disclosed that Chief Information Commissioner,  Ranjit Singh Pankaj, imposed a penalty of Rs. 25,000 on Inspector General (IG) Karmik, Tanuja Srivastava, on  Tuesday. Pankaj ordered this penalty for intentional denial of information to IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who is also husband of Nutan Thaukur.

She claimed that Amitabh had sought certain information from DGP office about his poetry collection "Atmadarsh". With the information being denied for long, on last date of hearing on 02 April, Pankaj  directed IG Karmik to be  present before the Commission and explain the facts. However, Tanuja Srivastava did not appear before the  Commission and she also refused information saying that until the government take any decision on the issue, she will not furnish any record as sought by the applicant.

Pankaj found this reply completely irrelevant because Amitabh Thakur had sought records from the DGP Office which has nothing to do with State government decision. Hence he imposed this penalty on IG Karmik.
