With regular Intelligence inputs on subversive forces attempting to strike terror ahead of the 70th Independence Day, an alert was been sounded across the state especially along the porous Indo-Nepal border and security was beefed up.
All 75 districts of UP have been alerted while security at public places, including bus and railway stations, airports, malls and other market places have been strengthened.
Special security arrangements have been made in sensitive religious places like Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura and also in communally sensitive districts like Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Kanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad and Azamgarh.
DGP Javeed Ahmed said in lucknow on Friday that an SOS has been sent to all district chiefs for taking precautionary measures during Independence Day. He said that security has been beefed up at airports and visitors passes have been cancelled in lucknow and Varanasi airports till August 22. At prominent railway stations, passengers and their baggages are being thoroughly checked upon entering platforms.
Meanwhile, a report from Sidharthnagar quoting SSB sources said that the entire Indo-Nepal border is under high alert in view of the possibility of ultras sneaking through the porus border.
Official sources said that the entire 550 kilometers long Indo-Nepal border in UP has been sealed and people crossing it are being strictly checked for the past couple of days. All activities on the border are being recorded in CCTV cameras and sniffer dogs have been engaged to track explosives.
