Polling in Alapur (reserved) Assembly seat started in the morning amidst tight security cover and ended at 5pm. The voters visited their nearest booths all through the day and waited patiently for their turn.
State Chief Electoral Officer T Venkatesh said that till 1pm, poll percentage was 43 per cent, which has risen to 60.06 per cent till the end. He said that polling was totally incident-free. Sitting MlA Bhim Prasad Sonkar had been denied the SP ticket this time.
Earlier, polling in this constituency was slated on February 27 in the fifth phase. The seven phase Assembly polls in UP were held between February 11 to March 8 and the counting of votes would be held on March 11 for all 403 seats.
