Taking a stride towards achieving the target under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) for the year 2022-23, the UP government has created 557.24 lakh man-days till June 12 against the annual target of 2,600 lakh man-days for employment generation.

“A target has been set to develop Amrit Sarovars in every gram panchayat of the state. Under this, 13,716 ponds have been selected so far. Estimates of 5,531 Amrit Sarovars have been made and work has been started on 2,951,” a government spokesman said here on Tuesday. He said that under MGNREGA, workers of the state are being paid on time. In the financial year 2021-22, 88 per cent of wages were paid.

“A target has been set to cover a total of 5 lakh families with individual beneficiary assets for livelihood promotion this year. Along with this, a target has been set to provide 100 days of employment to 20 lakh families,” he said, adding that Aadhaar seeding of workers is being done to ensure transparency in the process. Of a total of 1.65 crore workers, Aadhaar seeding of 1.28 crore active workers has been completed so far.

The spokesman said that under women empowerment and MGNREGA scheme, ‘mahila mates’ are being appointed to increase the participation of women. “Women from self-help groups formed under the Livelihood Mission have been selected and a target has been set to provide employment to more than 35,000 ‘mahila mates’ in the state,” he added.
