In what comes as another relief, none of the 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh have reported fresh cases of coronavirus infection in double digits lately. As many as 67 districts reported no case of Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours.

The active Covid caseload in the most populous state (UP), which was at a high of 3,10,783 in April, has been reduced to 99 now, whereas states like Kerala and Maharashtra account for a heavy active caseload of 68,630 and nearly 13,000, respectively. The transmission levels in the state have been brought down by restricting the fresh cases below 50 for over three consecutive months.

Out of over 1.58 lakh samples tested in the last 24 hours, as many as 12 tested positive in UP. In the same period, three patients also recovered from the infection, adding to the recovery of over 16,87,265 patients so far. Proactive measures such as the aggressive ‘trace, test & treat’ (T3) formula, prevention through vaccination and partial corona curfew to eradicate the pandemic, the UP government is reaching the last mile within the state to curb the spread, as a result of which the positivity rate has slumped to below 0.01 per cent.

Meanwhile, scaling up the stringent testing mechanism, the state is managing to break the Covid chain with effective protocols in place, and by sticking to the time-tested strategy of case isolation and contact-tracing, combined with an alert community surveillance system. Uttar Pradesh has tested the maximum number of samples so far (over 8.54 crore), followed by Maharashtra (6.38 crore).

Besides, UP is inching closer to administering 14 crore vaccine doses. Over 26 per cent of UP’s eligible population has taken both the vaccine doses so far. UP has administered over 13.97 crore vaccine doses so far.

The impressive pace of vaccination has made UP the top state with the largest population in the country. In addition, the state has also achieved the landmark of administering the first dose of the Covid vaccine to over 69 per cent of the eligible adult population. UP has set an example in front of other states of the country, besides controlling the infection in a short time. On the other hand, Maharashtra lags behind with 10 crore vaccine doses given so far.
