The recovery of carcasses of 42 monkeys from Nakhas area of Sambhal has left police and wildlife officials in a tizzy on Monday evening. The carcasses were sent for autopsy to confirm the exact reason behind the death particularly as reports of death of monkeys in large number also sparked tension in the area.  Reports said that the cops of the Sambhal police after getting information through control room rushed to the Rehtaul Sisuta road on Monday evening.

They were shocked to find carcasses of the monkeys kept in gunny bags. The cops suspected that the monkeys were given poisonous food that resulted in their deaths. However purpose of killing the monkeys could not be confirmed by the cops who later went ahead and registered a case under relevant sections of the Wildlife Act against unknown local residents of Rehtaul village after suspecting them to be behind the killing. Some of the villagers were also detained for interrogation.
