With the reforms in the sugarcane and khandsari policy, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued 131 new licences of khandsari units.
The new khandsari units will create additional cane crushing capacity of 34,550 TCD per day. This capacity is equivalent to the crushing capacity of about eight sugar mills.
Additional Chief Secretary (Sugarcane and Excise) Sanjay R Bhoosreddy said here on Tuesday that the policy had been simplified and the process to issue licence had been made online, eliminating human interface.
He said the creation of fresh cane crushing capacity would help the sugarcane farmers dispose of their crop and would fetch them good price of the sugarcane.
The additional chief secretary said following the issue of fresh licences, khandsari units were being established in rural areas, thus creating fresh employment opportunities along with disposal of sugarcane.
He said that so far 14 women entrepreneurs had been given licences for khandsari units by the Sugarcane department. He said the 14 new units would create crushing capacity of 4,100 TCDs per day.
For getting a new khandsari licence, online application can be submitted on the portal www.upkhandsari.in. The department is taking decision on online application within 100 hours of submission.
