12-year-old raped, left in critical state in Kannauj

A disturbing video has been doing rounds on social media in which a 12-year-old girl drenched in blood can be seen pleading for help; however, people standing around her are busy filming her on mobile phones.

The minor was allegedly raped and then dumped behind the Dak Bangla guest house in Kannauj. She suffered multiple injuries, including on her head.

In the video, the girl can be seen trying to seek help, but her appeals go unanswered as a group of men with their mobile phones in their hands were busy capturing her from different angles.

The onlookers can be heard asking whether the police were informed. Another asked for the police chief's number. But the filming continued with no attempts to help the girl. Reports claimed she had to wait for aid until the police arrived.

A second video, which also went viral, shows the local police outpost in-charge rushing towards an autorickshaw with the injured girl in his arms.

Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh said, "The minor girl was found injured and the local police rushed her to the hospital for treatment."

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under the relevant laws based on a complaint filed by the girl's family.

While the local residents allege that the girl was gang-raped and dumped, the police deny their claims.

Gursahaiganj police station in-charge Manoj Pandey said it was too early to arrive at any conclusion and the police were waiting for the girl to give a statement.

No arrests have been made in the case yet.

According to the girl's family, the girl had gone out to buy a piggy bank in the afternoon. When she did not return home till the evening, her parents mounted a search for her. The girl was found behind the guest house, drenched in blood and traumatised. The victim was later taken to the district hospital where a doctor examined her and referred her to Kanpur Nagar in view of her critical condition.

Meanwhile in Basti, a female priest, who had earlier accused a man of raping her, now accused the same person of attempting to murder her with police failing to arrest the culprit.

Police have registered a case after the alleged rape victim in Basti claimed the man from Bihar tried to kill her on Monday.

The sadhvi (priestess) alleged that Kalpanath Chaudhary, who has been accused of rape by her in the past, barged into the ashram where she is putting up and attacked her. The attacker also vandalised sadhvi's car and took the driver hostage and beat him up, she alleged.

The victim has filed a complaint at the Lalganj police station. The additional superintendent of police has directed the station officer of Lalganj to register an FIR of alleged attempt to murder.

Earlier, the victim had filed a police complaint in Govindpura and Nevada districts of Bihar alleging rape by Chaudhary. Bihar police have been on the lookout for Chaudhary for the last four years. Despite his house being sealed by the government, Chaudhary and two of his brothers are absconding.
