Eleven people, which also included some militants who claimed to have already put down the guns, were detained by the sleuths of the Shahastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Sunauli (Indo-Nepal) border in Maharajganj district on Tuesday night.
The move was made when the group was trying to enter India from Nepal along with their family members. They claimed to be on way to surrender and avail the benefits of Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation policy. Earlier also similar suspected militants were intercepted by SSB team at the same border.
A senior official of the SSB posted at Sunauli border at Maharajganj who supervised the operation and had interrogated the suspects, claimed that the group was comprising of five men, four women and two children. He said that after learning of their surrender plan they not initiated any further legal proceedings against them but they ensured that they should be send in security to Jammu and Kashmir cell in Delhi. Hence they deployed their jawans and sent all the eleven to New Delhi so further appropriate action could be taken after verifying their statement made before the SSB jawans.
He claimed that the group disclosed that they reached Kathmandu from Pakistan and later decided to enter into India through Sunauli border so they could proceed and surrender but they were trapped after getting some specific information. The officer said that further raised their suspicion as the entire group was not having any ,documents so they detained them for interrogation.
During interrogation, they disclosed that they had left Jammu and Kashmir between 1989 and 2009 and were settled in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan- occupied Kashmir (PoK). They claimed that they wanted to take advantage of the Rehabilitation policy of 2010 under the J&K government and wanted to go there. According to the surrender policy, former militants who crossed over to PoK between 1989 and 2009 would be considered for safe return. The SSB Jawans will accompany the group till Delhi and from there the central intelligence agencies would take over.
