Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday attacked the Uttar Pradesh government over the issue of women's safety, saying will Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath answer how successful his Mission Shakti is as news reports on crimes against women and the safety of their kin show they are not safe in the state at all.
She termed the Mission Shakti campaign a false propaganda of the Yogi Adityanath government on which huge sums were being spent on publicity "just to hide their failure on law and order front".
The Congress leader was targeting the government as within a week of killing of a farmer in Hathras for daring to lodge a report about molestation of his daughter, another rape victim's father was allegedly killed by the accused in Kanpur.
Chief Minister Adityanath launched the Mission Shakti campaign focusing on ensuring the safety and dignity of women and girls, with a stern warning that perpetrators of crime against females be dealt with an iron hand.
Attacking the government, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a tweet in Hindi, "Will the chief minister of UP bother to tell how successful his Mission Shakti is? Because news reports on crimes against women and safety of their kin from UP are saying that UP is not safe for them at all. Yet another rape victim's father was now killed in Kanpur."
Last week also, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had lambasted the BJP over alleged rise in incidents of crime in Uttar Pradesh. She said that everyday one family or the other was "screaming for justice" in the state. Her comments came just a day after a man, who has been accused of sexual assault, killed his alleged victim's father after being released on bail in Hathras.
"The father of a girl who did not take back a case of molestation was murdered in Hathras. The body of a girl, who had been missing for several days in Bulandshahr, was found buried in a house," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra cited reports.
"Contrary to the UP government's false propaganda on crime, everyday one family or the other is screaming for justice," she said.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders have been attacking the Yogi Adityanath government over the law and order situation in the state, alleging that criminal activities were rampant, a claim denied by the state government.
