Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party president Swatantra Dev Singh said on Wednesday that as assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh were approaching, leaders of opposition parties were competing among themselves in showering praises on Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
He further said that Samajwadi Party leaders had insulted the freedom fighters by comparing Jinnah with Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“Such comparison is an insult not only to the freedom fighters but also to the Backward Classes across the country who consider Sardar Patel as their ideal and take inspiration. The Backward Classes would not forget this insult and would teach a lesson to the Samajwadi Party at the hustings,” Singh said.
The BJP leader said that the opposition leaders used to indulge in politics of appeasement and therefore Samajwadi Party leaders did not think twice before comparing Jinnah with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“While doing this they forget that first Jinnah formed a party on the basis of religion and eventually got the country divided. Akhilesh and his leaders may not have realised the pain that partition dealt but the countrymen have not forgotten that yet,” he said.
Singh further said, “In fact, the history of those who chanted Jinnah's name has always been that of dividing the society on the basis of caste, religion, and opinion. They never want social harmony and brotherhood in the state. In view of the assembly elections, they are conspiring to spoil the social harmony but they forget that the people of the state along with the BJP will not allow any such mischief to succeed. The resolve of the BJP is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ and the party is moving ahead with this,” the BJP leader said.
