‘Big conspiracy’ made to sabotage state’s security: CM Yogi

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said he had realised that a big conspiracy was made to sabotage the state’s security.

“Conspiracies were made to eliminate the Provisional Armed Constabulary (PAC) force of UP, after which 54 companies were terminated. While watching the parade today, I realised what a big conspiracy to sabotage the security of UP was made... with an attempt to deprive the youth of this service,” Yogi said without taking the name of any political party. He was addressing the ‘Convocation Parade Ceremony-2022’ of PAC Recruit Reserves at Reserve Police Line here on Tuesday.

Congratulating the newly-recruited PAC constables on their successful training, the chief minister said, “We all know how a huge number of police and PAC posts were pending for recruitment when the new government was formed in 2017. In the past five years, we have succeeded in recruiting and training more than 1.62 lakh constables.”

Terming the ‘shutdown’ of at least 54 companies as a conspiracy to hamper the security in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi said he realised the conspiracy only after witnessing the parade.

“I am satisfied that within five years, we have recruited and connected more than 1.62 lakh youth of UP to the state police by enhancing the capacities of training centres, providing them the most successful training, by taking important steps to modernise the police force,” the CM said.

Welcoming and congratulating the trained constables, he said, “Because of the six months of successful training, the convocation parade is being organised in 87 centres in UP. On this occasion, I welcome the brave youth, congratulate their families and pray for their delightful future.”

The chief minister also said that the decade-long pending promotions of police officers had also been taken further by the government in a time-bound manner.

Emphasising on the improved image of the state, he reiterated his faith in a strong and well-trained police force and asserted that people’s outlook towards the people of UP had changed a lot in five years.

“Today, the youth of Uttar Pradesh can say with pride that they are residents of UP, the heartland of India. The way in which Uttar Pradesh has transformed its image through law and order is being hailed everywhere,” he said.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi claimed that in 2017 when the BJP government came to power, the police force had only 3 lakh personnel, and 53 companies of the PAC were virtually without any men. He said the capacity of the centres had also been enhanced and steps taken to modernise the police force.

During the Second World War In 1940, 13 companies of UP Military Police were raised to deal with internal security and the number was increased to 36 during the war period. The reorganisation took place in September 1947 during which 11 battalions (86 companies) were raised. In 1948, the UP Military Police and UP State Armed Constabulary were amalgamated into the Provincial Armed Constabulary. PAC was created to prevent frequent deployment of the army in grave law and order situations which the local police could not handle on their own.

Even though it was meant to serve only in Uttar Pradesh, the PAC has been deployed across the length and breadth of the country over the years. The PAC was renamed Pradeshik Armed Constabulary in 1956.

Meanwhile, Yogi also honored the four best parade commanders — Yogendra Awasthi, Aman Pandey, Raja Pandey and Amit Singh.

A total of 15,487 jawans have completed their training in the state. The passing out parade was organised in Lucknow as well as other places. As many as 399 PAC recruits have completed their training in Lucknow. Now, these 15,487 PAC jawans will be deployed in various corps of the state.
