This refers to the article, “What about the Right to Good GovernanceIJ” (July 8) by Joginder Singh. Unfortunate as it is, the truth is that most parties practise the dubious politics of appeasement to garner support of religious minorities, instead of following the politics of development, empowerment of people and good governance.
Over the years, good governance has taken a backseat while vote-bank politics has emerged at the forefront; policy-planning and its execution at the ground level are rarely carried out in sync; corruption has become endemic, and there has been a steady degradation of moral and ethical values in public life. Worse, neither is there any accountability or transparency in governance nor is there any effort to cleanse the system. While it is a fact that ‘people get the Government they deserve', it is also true that you cannot fool people all the time. The time is not far when the disgusted electorate will have its revenge.
