Yadav's dope comes as a huge setback for India

This refers to the editorial, “India’s Rio hopes dampen” (July26). The sudden development regarding the Indian contingent to the Rio Olympics smells a rat of conspiracy as the freestyle wrestler Narsingh Yadav's dope test has been found positive with Methandienone, a banned substance. The star performer's entry was beset with a controversy as another Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar also put a claim for inclusion into the Olympic squad but to the latter's disappointment, the Wrestling Federation went in for Yadav.

The plea that Yadav is not as simpleton as to consume a banned drug of common availability in the market and land himself in the mess to face deprivation of a golden chance while the athletes of high profile even balk at taking the exotic food items abroad just with a view to avoid an inadvertent consumption of any ingredient that might culminate in their disqualification, is on the mark. While investigation will make it clear whether or not Yadav is going to perform, but his image has literally suffered.
