Wrong direction

Sir — The initial euphoria that was seen when the Aam Aadmi Party formed the Government in Delhi, is quickly evaporating. There is anxiety and concern over the way the regime is functioning by playing to the gallery. Ms Kiran Bedi has been right in cautioning the party.

The trouble with the AAP is that the party is in a mad hurry to publicise itself. The way the so-called Janata Durbar ended earlier and the manner in which the Ministers want to deliver quick justice by asking the police to raid and arrest at random, show that the party is immature.

It was also patently absurd for the AAP to ask the public and media to freely resort to sting operations to nab the corrupt. The media cannot be used as an extended Government department by the AAP to tackle corruption, which the party claims is its priority. The AAP has compromised itself to inaction by teaming up with the Congress — the same political party in which it saw the malaise of corruption, deep-rooted and entrenched.
