This refers to the editorials, “An act of a statesman” (December 28) and “For regional progress” (December 29). It was heartening to see Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wearing the pink turban gifted to him by Prime Minister Modi. The gesture on the part of Mr Sharif shows how much he values the gift. However, at such a reassuring time when Mr Modi is taking an out-of-the-box initiative to reach out to Pakistan, was it necessary for BJP leader Ram Madhav to talk about a India, Pakistan and Bangladesh unificationIJ

Although there is a possibility that Mr Madhav’s interview to Al Jazeera was recorded earlier, the broadcast of the interview coincided with Mr Modi’s visit to lahore. This incident has naturally provoked stinging barbs from the Congress, which has said that the BJP will require a “heart transplant” to achieve the goal. The communists dubbed Mr Madhav’s utterances on ‘akhand Bharat’ as the “surest way” of derailing the dialogue with Pakistan problems. It is high time that our politicians undergo training on how and what to talk.
