Worrisome trend

Sir — This refers to the report, “Paravur sex scandal: Two film personalities jailed” (June 26). Condign punishment has not been awarded to the father of the victim (a 15-year-old girl), whose brutal sexual assault on his own daughter has shocked the nation.

It is he, who after the sadist and savage pleasure, forced her into the flesh trade. Similarly, the victim’s mother is equally accountable. She deserves harsh punishment. 

In Kerala, rape, murder and communal violence are increasing exponentially. This clearly shows that law and order situation has deteriorated and is as bad as it is in Uttar Pradesh. 

Kerala is among the most literate States in India, but increasing instances of sexual violence and assault upon women, especially by close relatives, clearly indicate a shattering blow to the dignity, honour and status of women in the State. The Kerala Government must wake up and tackle this dangerous trend before it gets out of hand.
