Women's safety

Sir — This refers to the report, “Privacy issues haunt Bihar’s flood-hit women” (August 20). Harrowing experiences of women are heart-wrenching. Apart from providing food, medicine and water, the Government authorities should pay equal attention to women’s safety and privacy and keep it in the list of their priorities. 

Relieving in the open is a traumatising experience for women. It is even more traumatising when she is already facing other serious crises. Moreover, there are elements in society who take leverage of even such painful conditions. Together with the Government, some of the NGOs and independent organisations working for relief of the affected people should focus on this issue.
