Sir — This refers to the editorial, “PM’s stern warning” (February 18). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to uphold and sustain the secular credentials of this nation. For the last six months now, an off-stage joust between an ‘executive’ Prime Minister and his party’s ideology vanguard, the larger Sanghparivar, had been on. The massive Aam Aadmi Party win in Delhi seems to have ushered in a detente. Both would have gained in stature, had this assurance come earlier.
It would now appear that both Mr Modi and the Sangh parivar collective will be pleased that they have scored over each other from this poll loss, though for totally different reasons. The Prime Minister’s reform path is clear of roadblocks that were needlessly piled on by ideological diversions. In turn, the Sangh parivar has managed to bring down Mr Modi a peg or two.
