This refers to the editorial, “Suit, boot and a plough” (April 22). It aptly sums up the chimera thrown up by the oration of Congress vice president Mr Rahul Gandhi in the lok Sabha, and the exceedingly incommensurate hype and hoopla around it, not merely in the Congress, which is only to be expected, but even across large sections of the media. If anything, this was akin to the sensation created when his mother Sonia Gandhi had merely ‘read out' her first address in the House several years ago.
It is sad to watch the level Indian media has descended to, that it should hail a mere speech by Mr Gandhi, made after 10 years of an underwhelming presence in the House and non-performance elsewhere. The media was bowled over by the address. The Press has been gushing over Mr Gandhi's ‘boldness'. The exaggerated reaction will eventually return to embarrass the media.
