Sir — Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has termed Mr Narendra Modi’s call for a ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ as fascist. By virtue of this argument, even Mahatma Gandhi will have to be termed as ‘fascist’, since he had also advocated on two occasions disbanding the Congress.
After the formation of Congress ministries in seven States of India in 1937, when the same were found to be neck-deep in corruption, Mahatma Gandhi was so upset that he called for the party’s ‘burial’. The second time, post-Independence, the Mahatma advised the Congress leadership to convert the party into a ‘public service institution’. But his advice fell on deaf ears. If Mr Modi can overthrow the Congress, he will render a great service to the nation.
