Pope Francis’s comments on climate change must be taken seriously. His words are heard carefully by an estimated one-third of humanity. The Pope is asking for environmental propriety and probity. Capitalist nations in the developed world should not feel offended by this. Instead, they must think about their policies and actions that yield unprecedented profits without much accountability. There are no religious issues here. The Pope has merely called on the baptised mind to be a bit cautious and conservative. After all, the developed world’s climate waywardness cannot be denied.
Also, even when religious figures opine on non-religious issues, they should be given proper credit, as long as they are doing it with good intentions and for the welfare of the world. In fact, one would also expect the Pope to send a stern message to the American society for continued racial intolerance.
