We must not drag the Army into a political tug-of-war

The surgical strikes across the line of Control (loC) was a retaliation to the Uri attacks, which was a necessary and bold step undertaken by the Indian Army. Certainly, there have been strikes similar to this in the past but the magnitude of 2016 surgical operations was of next level.

The footage of surgical strikes against terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) clearly showcases the post and bunkers of the terrorists are being targeted and destroyed.

The issue began when the strikes by the Army was being advertised and politicized by the leaders for potential electoral gains, which is definitely a wrong portrayal towards the nation's integrity.

Army operations tend to remain covert but if this time around, the DGMO held a press conference, it must be respected and publicizing it for petty politics will be a disgrace. Until there is a political will to initiate the strike, the Army cannot go ahead and hence, credit must go to the BJP-led Government for successfully administering the whole operation.

Same goes with the Opposition; it should refrain from asking evidence for every action taken by the military or the Government and be supportive and amiable when it comes to national security.

We must not put our Army in a political tug of war.
