Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Old water war revived” (September 8). The old water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has intensified once again after a recent Supreme Court order that asked Karnataka to release more water to Tamil Nadu. Whenever there is shortage of rainfall or when there is not enough water to drink or for irrigation, the fight intensifies.
And after the recent violence in Mandya, there would be allegations and counter allegations.
It is indeed a very sensitive issue and both the State Chief Ministers must sit together to find out a common resolution point so that neither has to approach the apex court for this issue. Also, rain water harvesting must be promoted so that every drop of water is utilised in a more efficient manner.
