Watch out

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “lord Yama, take a break!” (October 10). Fredrick Colting’s successful endeavour at inventing the Tikker that can foretell the exact time, date and year of a person’s death, deserves appreciation. But the number of takers for the watch will in all probability remain unremarkable.

life, for all its gloomy aspects, is so enticing that even a dying person will, with exceptions, long to live it, despite the inevitability of death. The inventor’s plea that, when people are aware of the timing of their final departure, they will plan their lives better, carries weight even as the reasoning of the Tikker is premised on a person’s family medical history, age and other concerning information. All said, the Tikker doesn’t guarantee that its calculations will always stand correct.
