Waning influence

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Rahul factor in debacle” (December 10). The poll results clearly indicate that the influence of the Congress is on the decline. While the BJP has been able to make significant inroads and has emerged a clear winner in States like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, in Delhi, which was one of the most keenly fought States, the new Aam Aadmi Party, led by Mr Arvind Kejriwal, has created an euphoria of sorts by winning a large number of seats.

While the debut performance of the AAP is outstanding, equally noteworthy is the victory of Mr Kejriwal over his rival, the formidable Sheila Dikshit. It must be pointed out that every vote the AAP got is a vote against both the BJP and the Congress. Mr Narendra Modi’s presence does not seem to have too significantly helped the BJP to score better.
