Sir — The crisis in Iraq, where militants have occupied large areas, should be a wake-up call to the Government in New Delhi, with militancy in the troubled State of Jammu & Kashmir likely to escalate.
Stern measures are needed. The previous Union Government had followed an appeasement policy, and refused even a re-look of the contentious Article 370 which was be a temporary measure towards total integration of the State with the Union of India. The provision has produced separatist feelings.
The new Government must tackle security in the region by taking the stake-holders into confidence and at least now fix a terminal date for Article 370, an anachronism in the changed situation after the State’s accession to the Union.
