Voter is discerning

Sir — This refers to the article, “All sound and fury, signifying nothing” (July 19) by Kalyani Shankar. The raising of the Ram mandir issue by some top leaders of the BJP is a calculated move to unite Hindu voters in Uttar Pradesh in the name of Ram, considering the way the country’s largest State is being governed by the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party.
Given the present bleak scenario, if Ram cannot bind the Hindus of Uttar Pradesh, nothing else can. Development is a forgotten word in the State and the rule of law exists on paper. The only exercise that is undertaken with great vigour by politicians there is Modi-bashing, as it makes for great ‘news’ and deflects attention from the misgovernance of the SP!
It is wrong to say that the electorate in Uttar Pradesh is not warming up to Mr Narendra Modi’s politics of development and progress. The voter is discerning and has the ability to separate the grain from the chaff.
