VIPs can't treat airlines as a personal fiefdom

Published on:
This refers to the report, “VIP's flight of fancy! PMO seeks report on flyers' plight” (July 3). This is not for the first time that the so-called VIPs have tried to show-off their power in public and the Prime Minister's Office has had to rap them. The VIPs involved in the recent incidents should be ashamed, since they compelled the Prime Minister's Office to intervene and check further damage to the Government's image. What is most shocking is the Maharashtra Chief Minister's action of delaying a flight because one of his officials had forgotten to bring along his travel documents.
Instead of apologising straightaway, the VIPs involved tried to brazen it out and blame everybody else except themselves. Some of them even went to the extent of holding the airline officials responsible for the mess. It was only after the PMO's intervention that they have expressed regret. Unfortunately, a great deal of damage has already been done to the Government's image.
