Vinod Khanna was a charming personality

This refers to the report, “... ‘Amar' to live forever in our hearts!” (April 28). Vinod Khanna was an easy-going, happy-go-lucky type of a person who deserted stardom when he was at its height. Starting off as a villain, Khanna belonged to a rare breed of actors who could shine in positive as well as negative roles and make them palatable to their fans. Though the years 1971 to 1982 were extremely productive for him, his alarming decision to move to Osho left his family in the lurch, his fans bewildered and his career in peril. On his return in 1987, he had his share of hit films, but by then Khanna had lost sheen.

like his colleagues Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha, Khanna tried his hand in politics, but could not become the quintessential politician. The dashing actor, who was drooled over by many of his leading ladies and female fans, was in and out of relationships, could have given Bachchan a run for his money — but for his four-year hiatus. But that's history. What we are certain about is that Khanna may have gone, but he will live through his films.
