This refers to the editorial, “Yes, debate Article 370” (December 3). Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's call for a discussion on the merits of the Article is a clever devise by the party to kick-start a debate on the contentious subject. It is bound to create ripples in Kashmir valley where several vested interests have flourished under the cover of this Article.
Various separatists and political leaders have used Article 370 as a shield for their anti-national activities and to loot the public exchequer. These leaders do not wish that ordinary Kashmiris are integrated into the Indian national mainstream. They do not want economic progress and development in the valley because, if that happens, their divisive politics and devious games will come to an end. This explains their opposition to the idea that Article 370 should be reconsidered.
