Vacillating leader

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “The Trump Doctrine” (October 16). It would be disastrous if the US eventually withdraws from the multilateral deal with Iran. The world would cease to trust even the most trusted nations and an international order of the civilised world would drift towards collapse.
It would take quite a while before full import of Trump’s psychology sinks to an appropriate level of understanding by behavioral scientists. However, one thing is definite that Trump is not a leader of stable frame of mind.
From the early days of his election campaign to this day, his pronouncements and speeches are initially boisterous, which then are toned down, modified beyond recognition or he goes a volte-face. Such examples are galore from Mexican Wall, understanding with Russia, Chinese trade relations, agreement with Australia, NAFTA, and last but not the least, his warnings to Pakistan on terrorism.
Instead of a statesman, we now have a vacillating leader in the White House. His policies are not only keeping the world on tenterhooks but is likely to pull down the US economy well below their normal levels. Welfare of its people is also under clouds because of withdrawal of schemes such as Obamacare and social disturbances caused due to his covert partiality to a section of American population.
