Use poll survey results to tweak political strategy

This refers to the article, “First, deny the truth. Then, condemn it” (November 6) by Rajesh Singh. The BJP should not support opinion polls merely because the predictions are in its favour. Nor should the party gloat over the favourable predictions, for the actual outcome could be less or more than the expectations. Take favourable indications without becoming complacent and take adverse indications as a cue for improvement.

In any case, it is absurd to stop expressions on the ground that they can influence voters. Then, all things which influence voters should be banned. And, let us not forget, the election process itself is all about influencing people to vote one way or the other. The poll survey results are subject to normally accepted scientific methods of sampling and the interpretation being adopted. Any deliberate tweaking of the outcome of a survey would amount to paid news. Action can be taken in such specific cases. Why did the Election Commission of India have to open a Pandora's boxIJ
