US arrogance

Published on:
Sir — I am happy at the aggressive but appropriate action the Government of India has taken in response to the insulting treatment meted out to Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade.
America has, for ages, exhibited the worst form of racism and violation of human rights. Even if one accepts that Ms Khobragade made a wrongful declaration and it warranted an arrest, could not the authorities have gone to her house or summon her to the police stationIJ Where was the necessity to pick her up when she was dropping her children, handcuff her and strip-searchIJ Is she accused of being a member of a terrorist outfitIJ
Americans demand preferential treatment for their citizens, both diplomats and non-diplomats, in other countries. Are Americans special children and others lesser children of godIJ Britain used to boast that the sun never set on its empire. But it did happen, after India gained independence from British rule. The world has changed since then. Soon, the US’s arrogance will be ground to dust too.
