Upholding values

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Scrap this triple talaq” (December 10). Ours is a constitutional democracy and the force of the constitutional law is supreme over any personal law of any community. The liberty and freedom as guaranteed by the Constitution to women, cannot be curbed and curtailed by the personal law of the Muslim community. This dichotomy must end now.

In this sense, the Allahabad High Court’s observation, dismissing the petition filed by a Muslim man from Uttar Pradesh to justify his talaq, is laudable.
