UPA has failed to check Kashmiri separatists

This refers to the article, “Separation of the separatistsIJ” (January 15) by Khursheed Wani. The writer has been reporting on the affairs of Kashmir regularly and with authority. But none in the Government appears to have taken note of his observations.

It reflects the sorry state of affairs in our intelligence network that we are unable to break the bone of separatists. Common citizens must be tired of the brutalities of militants in the last 25 years, but the Union and the State Governments have failed to isolate the militants.

Though crores of rupees have been pumped into Kashmir in the name of development, it is doubtful if the benefits have reached the people. The plight of Kashmiri Pandits does not move the authorities since the former don't form a strong vote-bank. The UPA regime appears to have some vested interest in keeping the Kashmir pot boiling, but this will go against the Government in the coming election.
