Sir — This refers to the call given by prominent Indian Muslim cleric Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahal that India should boycott Chinese goods to protest against incursions by Beijing. This advice will not work. The way to go about handling the situation is to make India more competitive through technology.
There was a time in the US when condemning Japan was popular among politicians, simply to get votes through mass hysteria. Today, due to Japan’s rise as an economic and technology power, the US has drawn closer to it. I am sure the Indian public will have more sense than to fall for the gimmick of boycotting Chinese goods.
