Unwise decision

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Politics of disruption” (July 21). The Congress seems to have made it a rule to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament on one pretext or the other, rather than ensure smooth business that is for the good of the people. It is shameful that the leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, laid the condition of the resignation of Ms Sushma Swaraj, Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Ms Vasundhara Raje, for letting the House run in the Monsoon Session. No Minister has resigned or has been removed merely on an Opposition’s demand based on allegations.

Unless a case is registered against the leaders concerned, there is no ground to ask for their removal and disrupt Parliament over it. Significantly, Mr Ram Gopal Yadav, a senior MP of the Samajwadi Party, which has the third largest block of members in the Rajya Sabha, has refused to toe the Congress line.

In an interview to a financial daily, he said that the Congress had the habit of asking resignations and that its stand on the land acquisition Bill lacks “pragmatism”. He added that highways, petrol pumps or public amenities cannot be built without the acquisition of land.
