Unseemly outbursts

Sir —This refers to Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s uncanny ability to grab headlines for all the wrong reasons, best exemplified by his recent diatribe against the Supreme Court for describing the Central Bureau of Investigation as a “caged parrot”. Mr Singh’s outburst was uncalled for and unwarranted. Is it not a fact that the country’s premier investigation agency does not enjoy autonomyIJ Also, the CBI too has unabashedly admitted that it is a part of the Government, implying that it is duty-bound to share all the information on various probes, with the ruling establishment.
The CBI’s sharing of draft status report relating to coal block allocation scam with then Union law Minister, the PMO and other Government officials, even though the apex court was monitoring the investigation, is proof that the powers-that-be had tried to dictate terms to the CBI to prepare the report to their advantage.
In these circumstances, one really can’t blame the Supreme Court for taking umbrage to this flagrant misuse of executive authority by the UPA regime.
