Unreasonable argument

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the article, “Feeding strays is right thing to do” (June 30) by Hiranmay Karlekar. Referring to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) proposal to punish those feeding animals in public, the writer has unreasonably argued in favour of the act, obviously because of his love for stray dogs and cattle.

Either he lacks sense to realise the gravity of the menace being created by stray dogs or he has deliberately ignored it. It is common knowledge that stray dogs and cattle often create mishaps on roads.

The writer has also contended that feeding stray animals is a fundamental right of the people and a part of religious rites. He must remember that giving alms to beggars is prohibited in Delhi, as they are also a threat to the traffic movement. Should we give more importance to stray animals than the poor beggarsIJ let the animal lovers take care of their pets in private. The suggestion to scrap the proposal of the VMC must be opposed by all means.
