Unity is strength

Sir — This refers to the article, “India’s unity is non-negotiable” (April 10) by A Surya Prakash. The writer’s invocation of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to butress his point of India’s non-negotiable integrity and sovereignity finds timeless relevance as the latter harbours strong aversion to any sort of divisive notions in the name of self-determination.

Verily speaking, gripes against the Centre’s alleged discrimination against the southern States in terms of the devolution of funds are a common phenomenon while the demand of bifurcation for the managerial facilitaion is something quite different from the secession of States that comes across as a fragmentation of the country, pushing it into a vulnerable position against other global powers. That’s why the saying goes, ‘United we stand, divided we fall’.
