Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Modi’s message of peace” (March 19). Prime Minister Narendra Modi deserves praise for his strong words against terrorism and the care he took to separate religion from terrorism. It was encouraging to see Modi speak about Islam while quoting verses for the Quran and paying tribute to Sufism for peace.
The phrase, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the universe is a family), used by Modi during his speech, is a benchmark for the prisoners of narrow-minded dogmas who harp on patriotism, nationalism and sedition. The culture behind Sufism must swell across the nation for communal peace and harmony. Our political and religious leaders have a key role to play in uniting humanity by discarding the practice of obscurantism.
