United in language

The recent disaster in Uttarakhand and the quibbling  over rescue and relief by politicians, clearly shows that the nation is distinctly divided on the basis of language and State. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel managed to bring all States, except one which Jawaharlal Nehru took control of, under one union. Nehru sowed the seeds of division by playing down the importance of having one national language (Hindi). In fact, he encouraged States to disregard Hindi and give prominence to their own respective languages along with English.

language is the main ingredient for unifying a nation. Though English is commercially essential, it is a foreign language and can never be the natural vehicle of India’s age old culture.
