Uniform tax

Sir— This refers to the editorial, “New regime at midnight” (July 3). The passage and rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at a time when hatred against the Union Government has reached to such an extent, that each and every word and deed of the Prime Minister is opposed with full force by the secular forces, was necessary. In fact, it is a heartening signal of cooperative federalism.

The Government and specifically Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley must be congratulated for this big achievement. While the principle opposition party was absent, boycotting the function of GST rollout, the media too failed to explain the failure of the Congress in getting the GST passed in their regime. While there may be hiccups at the outset during the implementation of GST provisions, the transformation is bound to be beneficial for the larger interest of Indian economy. let us take it as a sign of the united India and contribute our bit for this to strengthen ‘one country. one tax’.
