Unhappy voters

Sir — This refers to the article, “Delhi’s multi-faceted outcome” (February 23) by KG Suresh. The BJP got around 33 per cent of the votes cast in the general election, but it won a clear majority. Its victory was because Opposition parties were fragmented and fought one another in the hope that they would get a better say in a coalition Government. To attribute the BJP’s win in lok Sabha to the support of floating voters is wrong.

In the Delhi election, the BJP held its core but it lost because the main Opposition was strong. The voters would have sided with the BJP, but they perceived the NDA regime as having done little in the nine months it has been in power. All it has been perceived to be doing is playing consolidation games and trying to sell development.
