Unfortunate controversy

Sir — This refers to the report, “Dog analogy for Dalit killings sparks row; Singh clarifies” (October 23). It is unfortunate that Union Minister VK Singh has ignited a fresh controversy by making a canine analogy to dismiss the death of two Dalit children in Haryana as a local incident.

Although Gen Singh immediately said he did not intend to draw a parallel and that the media twisted his observation out of context, the charge will stick on him because of his record of frequently making intemperate remarks.

At a time when Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat is talking of inclusivity being “the core of our culture”, if  many such loose cannons are springing up and creating social tension, it is because there is no fear of law or disciplinary action.
