Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Empowering the poor” (May 14). The poor are likely to benefit from the insurance schemes the Prime Minister has announced. But the poor need more than that. The people voted Mr Narendra Modi to power in the hope that he would bring inflation under control and check prices of essential commodities.
But, on the contrary, prices are on the rise. The unemployment problem will be solved to a certain extent through increased industrialisation, but industrial growth is yet to pick up. The Kashmir problem is still to be resolved and Kashmiri Pandits continue to get a raw deal. Terrorism has not been stamped with an iron hand, nor has been the Red menace. Mr Modi has many more tasks to complete.
