Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Bitter pill for the better” (September 3). Forget the loss of business but while the trade unions have the right to strike to draw Government attention, they should also think about the condition of daily wagers who were the worst hit during the lockout. Political parties in power and in Opposition must understand, which pill is more important and which is not, for the well-being of the nation.
Bitter pill cannot be administered only to those who make the business class richer and richer. The Government, instead of giving sweet pills in the name of tax cuts and tax benefits to the trade unions, should be bold enough to prescribe bitter pills to the rich class as well.
It’s true that the business and industrial classes have the tendency to enjoy the fruits of liberal business policies, but when it comes to sharing the fruits, they look the other way. Also, political parties have a tendency to use the bitter pill for their benefit, no matter if they are the ruling party or the Opposition.
