This refers to the editorial, “Tough message delivered” (April 6). Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's new-found diplomatic confidence is unparalleled. The Modi-Obama bonhomie pitchforked the India-US relations to a new high. However, some rabble-rousers in the Trump dispensation like Nikki Haley seem to relish speaking out of turn without an understanding of the issue at hand. Though her comments on Kashmir may not be in sync with the stance of President Donald Trump himself, coming from aUS envoy to the United Nations, the ramifications would have been considerable but for New Delhi's befitting response.
The External Affairs Ministry, asking the US to tackle Pakistan terror first before venturing into the role of a peacemaker in the India-Pakistan ties, should compel Trump to rein in his so-called ambassadors and advisors. Trump, a known admirer of Modi, should decipher the vicissitudes of the New Delhi-Islamabad ties vis-à-vis the Kashmir issue.
