Uncaring attitude

Published on:

The slum demolition in a Delhi suburb by Indian Railways would have rarely happened in a progressive civil society. Was the intention to drive the rude message right to the bones of the poor in the biting coldIJ Also, the demolition is even more odd when viewed against the backdrop of illegal colonies that are routinely regularised before elections to secure vote-banks.

We must seek answers for our uncaring attitude towards our own fellow citizens. This alone will pave the way for a more imaginative approach to an increasing urban problem.

We need the poor labourers to build our beautiful cities but we have no qualms in treating their meagre dwellings with utter contempt and disdain.
